RefuAid

Last month, I met with Jeannie Blizzard, Surraya Sumner and Tasmyn Brewster, local representatives of RefuAid, a charity that Tasmyn help set-up to provide medical assistance to refugee camps across Europe. We had an interesting discussion about the important work they do in providing aid, equipment and volunteers to those in need.

To date, the government has pledged £2.3 billion in aid for Syrian refugees and is the second largest bilateral donor. The aid includes support to European governments in managing immigration to the Western Balkans, Greece and Italy as well as shelter, warm clothes, hot food and medical supplies. British aid is vital to improving the quality of life for refugees in countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey, and in preventing more from attempting the perilous journey to Europe.

Next month, RefuAid will host an event at St Mary’s Church, East Moseley and I would encourage anyone who feels able to support their fundraising efforts. The support they have received so far is great testament to the philanthropic spirit of our community.
