Over £26m in grant funding for Elmbridge businesses

It was good to hear recently that Elmbridge businesses have now received over £26m in government-funded grants during Coronavirus.

This figure includes one-off grants provided in the early stages of the pandemic last year, as well as other government-funded schemes administered by local authorities. Importantly though, it doesn’t include many of the grants distributed during the current lockdown restrictions – meaning the true amount of support is even higher.

For local businesses, it’s important to remember that during the current restrictions, premises forced to close are eligible for grants of up to £3,000 per month. This is in addition to the one-off grants of up to £9,000 per property made available at the beginning of the lockdown.

Further support will be available in the coming months. In last week’s Budget, the Chancellor announced new grants of up to £18,000 for certain businesses, and a further £425m for local authorities to distribute.

The amount of funding already provided, and the further support announced recently, is very welcome news for local businesses and will help them to get through Coronavirus. All of the grants are distributed through local councils, so businesses can check what they’re eligible for on Elmbridge Borough Council’s website, here.

It was great to welcome Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng to speak at Connect, my local business group, on Friday morning. Connect has been an invaluable way to keep in touch with business owners in Elmbridge throughout the pandemic.
