Breck Foundation

It was a real pleasure to virtually meet Lorin LaFave from The Breck Foundation on Friday. The foundation does great work to raise awareness of how young people can stay safe online, by visiting schools and educating teachers, governors, parents, safeguarding professionals and others about online safety.

Lorin, who lives locally, set up the charity after her young son was groomed online and murdered. It was inspiring to hear how her experience had driven Lorin to help protect other children online.

Lorin and I spoke about the government’s action to protect children online, particularly through the forthcoming ‘online harms’ legislation, which follows a consultation on the Online Harms White Paper. I’ll be helping The Breck Foundation in their campaign, including in relation to this legislation. My thanks to Lorin and her colleagues for taking the time to talk me through their work.
