Last week, I was delighted to welcome Sports Minister, Nigel Huddleston, to Hersham for the opening of Sensei Paul Abel’s new karate dojo.
It was a real treat to meet one of Paul’s students, Joseph Clifton, who performed his new kata for us, which he is hoping to take to Birmingham for the para Commonwealth Games.
It is a great example of local grassroots sport, and how it can give youngsters opportunity and direction. I know from Joseph’s parents, that karate has really given him discipline for all the other areas of his life.
