Walton Town Centre and St John’s Estate in Walton are set to receive £330,000 from this Conservative Government’s Safer Streets funding – a grant for projects to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and make areas safer for women and girls.
This new funding will be used to tackle anti-social behaviour in public spaces, which includes everything from drug dealing and taking to vandalism and littering. Extra CCTV will be installed and youth outreach programmes will be launched.
New security measures will also be introduced in the Drewitts Court car park, including:
- Speed bumps,
- Anti-climb paint
- Motion sensor lighting
Improvements will also be made to the community garden in the St John’s Estate.
Earlier this year, I brought Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner, Lisa Townsend, to St John’s in Walton to discuss what we can do to tackle pockets of anti-social behaviour in the area. Thank you to Lisa for all her hard work in ensuring Walton got the funding it needs to make our streets safer.
