Back in April I visited St Lawrence Junior School, as part of my support for a campaign to install road safety measures outside the school. Damian Tucker (the Headteacher), governors, and concerned parents – led by Jim Davidson – have done a great job in campaigning for these measures. Together with Councillor Steve Bax, I’ve been working with Surrey County Council (SCC) to find a solution.
We had our latest meeting on this issue on Friday, and made important progress. Having discussed a variety of options set out by SCC, we agreed that a ‘pinch point crossing’ – reducing the road to one lane at a single point, with a raised section where cars give way to pedestrians – is the optimal solution. Surrey County Council are now looking at this in more detail, and we will meet again soon to review progress.
This is excellent news for pupils and parents at St Lawrence. My thanks to the school, the parents, and Steve for their work on this important issue.
