Coronavirus is the biggest challenge that we have faced as a country in decades – and as we saw in last week’s GDP figures, it is having a serious impact on the UK economy. Throughout this difficult time, the government’s priority has been to support people, families and businesses.
Last week, new figures showed the scale of the support that local residents in Elmbridge have received. In total, 14,200 jobs in Elmbridge have been protected through the furlough scheme. Under this scheme, government grants cover 80% of a furloughed worker’s wages, up to £2,500 per month. In addition, the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme is supporting 4,700 Elmbridge residents, who are receiving grants worth a total of £15.6m.
More information about the furlough and Self-Employment Income Support Schemes – as well as the full range of government support for individuals and businesses – can be found on the government’s Coronavirus website, here.
